The Socialist is a playable faction in Risk Malaysia which focuses on creating large armies and overwhelming the enemies with firepower and propaganda.

Overview
The Socialist is a single-party ruling body whose aim is to unite and develop the country through the ideology of socialism. The Socialists incorporate assistance from fellow member states of the Socialist Bloc to spread their sphere of influence and stop the greedy Western imperialists once and for all.

The Socialist focuses on massive army to swarm and overwhelm the enemies. Foreign conscripts and off-map support from member states, used along with aggressive subliminal propaganda, provides bonus attack damage to the army. Hence, the Socialist party is well suited for players who prefer to win using massive armies and an arsenal of devastating firepower.

History
The rise of the Socialist Bloc and its ideology attracted Malaysians who wanted to join the socialism movement with the backings of established nations. Shortly after the great economic collapse, the ensuing chaos opened a power vacuum which leads to the threat from EU colonisation, radical Nationalists and deadly Brotherhood terrorists. Several promising leaders e-mailed the Socialist Bloc to request for assistance, and the member states unanimously agreed to provide guidance, military support and the great values of socialism.

Political Structure
Each member states govern themselves autonomously but they all commune together for mutual decision-making in the Socialist Bloc. Any threats to the Bloc will be dealt with immediately by members and financial aids will be given to new members to help spread the socialism sphere of influence. The leader of the Bloc will be elected by member states on rotational basis each term. The current Socialist Bloc leader is Ivan Ivanovic who have introduced several socialist policies such as:

  • Strengthen the Bloc's defenses through mutual military coordination across the Bloc
  • Return to member states from Western banks the financial reserves and use them for economic and social development.
  • Create conditions for development of current and new member states.

Although still new, Malaysian socialists may request military and financial assistance from the Bloc. They can also participate in the upcoming policy-making by voting their desired policies. The policies will take effect immediately and earns the favour of the member state you have voted for.

Tactical Aid
The Socialists can call in tactical aids from other members of the Socialist Bloc. The supports are:

North Korean Support
The North Korean army has entrenched M-2013 Koksan II artillery system near the region. The new Koksan self-propelled gun is based on the M-1978 models sold to Iranians during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War. These Koksans will fire a heavy indiscriminate artillery barrage suitable to provide cover or aid the army's advancement.

Vietnamese Support
The People's Army of Vietnam has stationed elite reconnaissance teams in the region. The 1979-90 Sino-Vietnamese War has given combat tactics and strategies to the Vietnamese infantry. The reconnaissance team will scout the battlefield and coordinate the infantries around the Socialist Leader.

Chinese Support
The People's Liberation Army Navy has deployed its aircraft carrier, Liaoning, near the region. Liaoning was bought from the Soviets and retrofitted into an operational carrier on September 25, 2012. The carrier will launch 10 Shenyang J-15 to provide air superiority near the Socialist Leader.

Russian Support
The newly reformed Socialist Russia has shown interest in helping Socialist allies in the region. The experience from the 1979-88 war in Afghanistan has taught the Russians important skills on armoured and mechanised warfare. The Russians will send a military advisor to help coordinate the vehicles defenses around the Socialist Leader.

Military
Socialists are able to quickly produce units on the go but are lightly-equipped due to budget and time constraint. The Revolutionaries on the frontlines usually consist of Malaysian and foreign volunteers or conscripts, and their numbers make up for their lack of experience. The tactical aids and off-map supports soften if not obliterate enemies and friendlies alike to clear the way forward. The propaganda transmitted from Propaganda Centres further enhance the army's speed, attacks and defenses. So is the might of the Socialist Bloc.

Trivia

  • The Socialists are loosely based on stereotypical representation of Soviets in games and movies.
  • The nukes used are all tactical nukes, hence they are smaller and don't wipe out the entire map.
  • Some units and abilities which never made it into the final release are:
    • Airship - Kirovs man! Removed due to lack of a proper model. Plus it will be too cliche and predictable to have such a thing, again.
    • Overlord Tank - Or a twin-barrelled tank specifically, removed due to cliche. However, the tank is still available from the Merchants of War though.
    • Horde - An aura effect which multiplies a unit's attack with the number of friendly units around it, removed due to bugs and inevitable game imbalance.
  • They are the least problematic Faction in development, partly due their attributes which focus on massive army and indiscriminate firepower.
