RISK MALAYSIA (RM) is a Warcraft III real-time strategy multiplayer mod by |-|/\/|\ Games. Set in the near fictional future of 2015 after the Great Economic Collapse, the game focuses on survival and territorial warfare among splintered Malaysian factions.

Be in full command of various units, take over real life cities, towns and kampungs and choose the faction which you think will bring you to victory. Battle for Malaysia over land, sea and air in a map spanning across Boleh Land and the surrounding South East Asian region.

Gameplay
RM is set in the near almost-realistic future of Malaysia and the surrounding areas during a fictional economic disaster which crippled the world economy and unleashed chaos and anarchy onto the populace.

Players must capture settlements (both in forms of Cities and Kampoungs) to generate a steady income, build their own armies, defend against other players and expand their territories by capturing even more settlements.

At the start of the game, players are able to choose their desired starting locations which will place them randomly on the map. Players begin the game by controlling only one unit, the Wannabe Leader, with which the players can use to take over their desired settlements. The players then can upgrade their Leaders to become one of the 3 playable factions; the Nationalists, the Socialists and EU Supporters. These factions have their own distinctive playing style (inclusive of unique units and upgrades) and it is up to the players to choose whichever faction that suits their taste. From there onward players can immediately expand their territory, capturing enemy settlements while defending their own and form or destroy alliances with other human players all while being in-game.

The game is played competitively with other human players and can be won with two methods. The two methods are:

DOMINATION
After 30 minutes, the player at the top of the scoreboard wins the game. The score refreshes every time a settlement is captured (to prevent turtling) and scores can be earned by building units and destroying the enemies.

ELIMINATION
The player wins by eliminating every single units of his/her enemies before the game ends in 30 minutes. This is well suited for aggressive players as this victory condition ignores the number of settlements you have and which position you are on the scoreboard.

Apart from the two game victory conditions, there are also in-game events which unfold as the game progresses to represent the escalation of the conflict from the economic collapse aftermath to the prelude of WWIII. These events are optional but can be actively participated and they will reward players or alter the game outcome.

Trivia

  • RM is heavily inspired and influenced by all those top real-time strategy games which features conflicts involving multiple distinctive factions.
  • RM was under development for over 5 years! It all began after the game mod developer experienced the fun of playing Risk style games in Warcraft III with his uni mates back in 2010 and vowed to produce one mod with the idea of a "one last round".
  • The first version 1.0.1 was released in 2014, but with various game breaking bugs, another year took place before the latest version 1.3 came about.
  • Risk Malaysia II (RM2) is in the works, with its own engine and continues the plot from RM1. It will be an indie game, so do send a message as we are interested to make a properly design full-fledged epic.
  • A 4th Faction was planned to be included in version 1.3 but was scrapped. It was supposed to be based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) where the support from the real-life OIC member states are given to the Malaysian Leader. It was removed in the end due to time constraint.
  • There is a dead Hydra washed ashore on one of the beaches of the Spratly Islands as a nod to another |-|/\/|\ Games Warcraft III mod called Orcs vs Zergs & Zombies which was released on 25th  December 2012.
  • You can activate the WTF Mode by letting Player 1 type in a certain person's name with a "-" as a prefix, which unlocks these 3 modes where the developer used to fool around but have hidden them in the final release. The Player 2 slot must be a Computer. The 3 modes and their details are:
ZOMBIES MODE
After activating WTF mode, Player 1 must type "-zombies" (without the ") to cause hordes of zombies to spawn and attack everyone. They work similar to the Virus sold by the Merchants of War, but this mode continuously spawn Zombies until the end. Be careful these zombies are fast!

BROTHERHOOD MODE
After activating WTF mode, Player 1 must type "-brotherhood" (without the ") to cause a full-scale Brotherhood attack all over the map. Yes, they can capture settlements and spawn even more Brotherhood Militants to spread terror! Unlike the in-game Brotherhood, this mode will continuously spawn Militants until the end.

WEST MALAYSIA WAR MODE
After activating WTF mode, Player 1 must type "-west" (without the ") to start a full-scale war between the 3 Factions in West Malaysia. This mode was made to test units, abilities and triggers during BETA so yes, it may cause the game to break.
